Weekend in Wellington

I left for Wellington on Thursday June, 6th.  Laetitia from France joined me in my travels.  Our flight was quick and easy, spending less than an hour at the airport and only an hour flying.

Look who was there to greet us at the airport!

We had very nice weather when we arrived in Wellington. We found our hostel and then when out for a nice lunch.  I tried fish pie and a yummy muffin.  Once our belly's were full we went to explore a bit of the city.

The Burger King is a bit nicer than they usually are at home.

Still being a kid.

Then it was off to Te Papa the famous museum of Wellington.  I enjoyed the museum a lot but we were ready to relax for a bit after spending a few hours there, so we went back for dinner at the backpacker.

A jazz festival was supposed to be happening in Wellington so we went out to try and listen to some jazz after this, but sadly we were unsuccessful.

The following day we had more wonderful weather and we headed up the Cable Car to the Botanical Gardens.  before this though we made a quick search to find a telephone booth that is directly across the world form a point in France.

The rose gardens.

 Stop and smell the roses!

She choose a good bench to sit on and enjoy the sunshine.

 Our lovely lunch location.

After the Gardens we took an interesting tour of Parliament.

 The Beehive.
As we finished our explorations we went to a small night market off Cuba Street and then returned to have some dinner.  To finish off our meal we had a French crepe and then Laetitia was off to return to Auckland.

The next day I went to a small farmers market and did some wandering around the city looking at the different buildings and streets.  I also stopped in at some of the city's beautiful cathedrals.

The stained glass was so beautiful (and Mom I swear this is a pelican!)

I also spent some time visiting art galleries and the Wellington City and Sea Museum, both of which I enjoyed and would recommend.

After this I went to an Underground Market where different New Zealanders were selling homemade crafts.

And to conclude here are some of the interesting things of Wellington!

Cuba street had a lot of different shops and restaurants, it was fun to walk around this area.  For those that know Burlington, VT it also had a walking part of the street which reminded me so much of Church Street.

I enjoyed my time in Wellington it is a city with history and character.
